What's Happening In Philly This MLK Weekend

Posted by Admin PhillyLiving on Friday, January 12th, 2018 at 12:36pm.

For many, it’s the first full week back since the holidays so Friday has never looked sweeter; plus it’s no longer miserable to be outside for more than 10 seconds so why not make the most of it before the cold front returns. Which is just in time for...

...Pegsicle at Finge Arts! Not familiar with La Peg located in the Fringe Arts Building? It’s the perfect long weekend to stop by & learn more about it, especially Monday. Noon kicks off the building of the ice bar, Pegsicle, at La Peg! This is projected to take about 5 hours to craft and upon completion, the festivities will begin! Each night next week will feature a different local artist creating their own unique ice sculptures during dinner service. Lucky for us next week is below freezing most days so the ice bar should stick around for the week, but keep in mind, once the bar melts...it’s gone for the year!

Eagles Playoff Game...when’s the last time Philly fans could say those words? 2014 to be exact, but as a wild card. This year the Eagles clinched the division with a few games to spare in regular season and right before Wentz suffered a season-ending ACL tear. Now with Nick Foles at the helm we’re headed into the biggest weekend of the season, our first playoff game of the year versus the Atlanta Falcons. If you’re lucky enough to be headed to the Linc be sure to get loud and support our Birds, and if you’re going to be in the city you can be sure nearly every bar will be playing the 4:30 game this Saturday. Get out & support our team because you never know the next time we could be in the playoffs...

Center City District Restaurant Week; the sweetest sounding words to those residing in and around Center City Philadelphia. This beautiful occasion kicks off on Sunday January 14th and is available for diners through January 26th. New to the area & not sure what this is all about? That will quickly fade after you stop by any participating restaurant for a 3-course lunch or 3-course dinner over these two weeks for $20 and $35 respectively. Tip for the novice Restaurant Week diner: make reservations! Everyone is out and about during these next two weeks and if there’s a spot you want to try, make a reservation as far in advance as you can!

Although these have been available to the public since late November, the Winter Fountains on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway are illuminated and waiting for you again this weekend. You may have seen the set of four white domes during the day, as many of us have, and wondered what they are there for. Stop by at night to truly be wowed by the glowing videos projected on all four domes, to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the avenue’s groundbreaking!

Big Philly Beerfest is back for two days - today & tomorrow! Beginning at 8pm on both days, attendees can try hundreds of craft beers, enjoy live music & taste some treats from ever popular Reading Terminal Market. Is 8pm to 11:30pm not enough time for you and your beer-loving comrades? Not to worry, there is an option for an early bird ticket allowing you to taste, sip & listen for an additional house starting at 7pm. If you’re interested in purchasing tickets you can do so here. Cheers!

The Convention Center, as usual, has a lot going on this weekend including the Philly Home Show! The home show runs today through Sunday and then again next weekend Friday to Sunday. Philly Homeowners gather here each year to take advantage of the hundreds of experts & vendors who are at your disposal. You can find anyone from construction & renovation professionals to home cleaning services and products. With a little something for everyone, this is definitely somewhere you’ll want to put on your list for either this weekend or next!
