Anyone who has experienced or read about "seasonal affective disorder" (SAD, perhaps the most appropriate acronym ever for an illness) can probably figure out why light figures so prominently in celebrations at this time of year: Sunday, Dec. 21, is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. Today we have two events designed to make up for the lack of daylight with an abundance of fun and cheer.

The Philadelphia City Planning Commission voted to delay a vote on a proposed apartment building along Main Street in Manayunk at its October meeting.  The commission members decided to delay the vote in order to confirm the accuracy of the elevation drawings which the developers and architects displayed at the meeting.

The developer of the new building is Stan Goldmer and the architect is Lance Kramer.  Kramer presented the proposed building, which would replace a small vacant building and empty lot at the base of a steep hill at 3811 Main St., along a bend in Main Street between the Wissahickon
