Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Fest (May 1st - June 30th)
May kicks off with a bang at Franklin Square Park with the return of the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival. For the 3rd year, the park will light up this part of the city with whimsical and creative constructions including the 200-foot-long Chinese Dragon! The best time to go is after dark although they open the park at 6pm to those with tickets. You are able to purchase tickets at the door however it’s advised to pre-purchase to avoid the lines! This festival is only here from May through the end of June so be sure to plan a time to go before it’s gone! More information on the festival here.
Dining Under the Stars Media (May 2nd - September 26th - Wednesdays)
Nothing’s better than enjoying delicious food from some of your favorite restaurants while under the stars! Once a week beginning the first week in May, State Street will be shut-down to vehicles in order to allow for Media’s residents & visitors to dine, drink & enjoy the local culture of Media! South Street Spring Festival (May 5th)
South Street has its fair share of Festivals when the weather warms up, this one however is the Spring Festival and Maifest which spans from 8th & South down to Headhouse Plaza. Packed with food & drink vendors, artists, local shops & more this is not one to miss...especially if you enjoy authentic German celebrations! In front of Brahaus Schmitz each year there is a maypole, German performances, beer & so much more!
Broad Street Run (May 6th)
Thinking of crossing Broad Street next weekend...think again! Thousands of runners will hit the pavement on Sunday May 6th for the Broad Street Run, a tradition dating back to the early 1980’s where the main drag of Philadelphia is shut down for more than 40,000 participants to see all Broad Street has to offer by running 10-miles of the popular street starting at Fisher Avenue, around City Hall and finishing up at the Naval Yard in South Philly! All bibs are accounted for so if you’re still interested, see if someone is selling theirs, or start training for next year!
Chestnut Hill Home & Garden Festival (May 6th)
More than 150 vendors are headed to Germantown Avenue in just a little over a week to share their love of all things landscaping, gardening, home design & more at the Chestnut Hill Home & Garden Festival. There will also be food from local restaurants as well as activities, games, live music & more...a little something for everyone!
Festival of the Fountains at Longwood Gardens (May 7th - September 30th)
Beginning in May and going through the end of September, Longwood Gardens is hosting it’s 2nd Annual Festival of the Fountains. If you and your family are looking for something different, be sure to put this on your summer list! It’s not only the fountains and the light show which are attracting guests, but also the live music in the beer garden available Thursday through Saturday, special firework shows on 6 select evenings over the summer plus an outdoor performing arts series. Spruce Street Harbor Park Returns (May 11th)
We know we’re not alone in our excitement for the 2018 Grand Opening of Spruce Street Harbor Park! In years’ past Garces and Solomonov have set up outposts of their popular restaurants at the park and this year we can expect more of the same with popular chefs offering food and drink options. There are also classic “boardwalk” options like fries, cotton candy, funnel cake & more. This is the perfect happy hour spot, family-friendly day out or just a place to hang with friends this summer.
Blue Cross River Rink Summerfest (May 11th)
A few blocks South of Spruce Street Harbor Park, it’s not a coincidence Blue Cross River Rink will open its doors again for their Summerfest on the same day! Returning for another season, The Midway will have rides, carnival games & a Ferris Wheel! The perfect waterfront spot for families with young kids, it’s Philly’s own semi-permanent carnival!
Dad Vail Regatta (May 11th & 12th)
There’s something about water that’s magical, especially over by Boathouse Row. May 11th & 12th will be no different with the Schuykill River welcoming hundreds of student-athletes to compete in the Dad Vail Regatta. This could be the perfect spot to celebrate mother’s day a day early! Pack a lunch and enjoy the rowing competition for the afternoon. We hear the best spot view the action is by the John B. Kelly statue.
Treetop Quest in West Fairmount Park (May 12th - November 25th)

Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival (May 19th)
It’s every Center City Philadelphian’s favorite festival, Rittenhouse Row Spring Fest! In the heart of the city, Walnut Street will be shut down from Broad Street to Rittenhouse Square to celebrate arts, beauty, fashion, food, drinks, live music and other entertainment! It’s free and open to the public beginning at 12pm and ending around 5pm rain or shine!
South 9th Street Italian Market Festival (May 19th & 20th)
Ever seen grown men try to climb greased poles? Well, maybe if you were on Broad Street the night the Eagles won the Lombardi Trophy, but that’s a different story! This is a competition which occurs every year at the South 9th Street Italian Market Festival! There’s so much happening at this festival, including cheese, pizzas, cannolis and more, that they’ve made it a 2-day festival. So stop by the Italian Market, specifically 9th Street on Saturday or Sunday to enjoy the Italian culture, food and activities!
Peddler’s Village Strawberry Festival (May 19th & 20th)
