Everything FreshThe experiment on Walnut Street is a success, says Ahold USA, so Center City food lovers can expect to see more stores like this one popping up all over town over the next several years.

Good things, it appears, really do come in small packages.

And that's good news for Center City Philadelphia food shoppers.

According to an article in the Philadelphia Business Journal, Ahold USA is so pleased with the performance of its Everything Fresh food store at 1222 Walnut St. in the Midtown Village-Gayborhood section of Washington Square West that it's going to repeat the experiment another seven times.

The new stores will be bigger than the 3,000-square-foot original—10,000 to 20,000 square feet, according to the story—but will retain the store's

pulled pork tacos (carnitas)Carnitas (pulled pork tacos)? You bet, and more! All the fresh, fun flavors of Mexico will be served in a relaxed atmosphere at Tio Flores, the third restaurant from food and beer lovers Chris Fetfatzes and Heather Annechiarico.

“Mexican food is easy, it’s comforting, it’s fresh, it’s spicy, it’s floral and it’s fun.”

Or try this: It’s a vacation every time you go out to a Mexican restaurant. “Margaritas are fun. Mexican cuisine evokes the beach, it evokes relaxation - it’s a vacation cuisine, if you will.”

Restaurateur Chris Fetfatzes has long wanted to open up his own little vacation spot. Now, with Calexico pulling out of the retail space at 1600 South St. in Graduate Hospital, he has his chance—again. And this time, he’s not letting it slip

Given that Society Hill has now displaced Rittenhouse Square as Center City's most desirable address (right, Toll Brothers?), "Society Hill bargain" is relative: you simply will not find anything that lists for the citywide median listing price of $125,000. (But before you read on, consider that figure for a little while, then tell us whether there really is an "affordable housing" problem in this city.)

However, you can find new homes and condominiums—especially the latter—that list for less than the median listing price of $460,000 for Society Hill's ZIP code of 19106. The three featured here are great choices for a first-time buyer looking for an attractive home in a hot location that's convenient to everything.

SEC 13th and Locust; Bud & Marilyn's on street floorThe wraps will be off Bud & Marilyn's at 13th and Locust soon...

The gastropub Rhino got good reviews from both food writers and Yelpers during its way-too-brief existence at 13th and Locust streets in Washington Square West's Midtown Village-Gayborhood section, closing after only a few months in business in late 2013.

Not long after it closed, dynamic-duo restaurateurs Chef Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran acquired the property and the smaller space next door, where Rhino predecessor Fish had moved to before it too shut down. The pair opened an intimiate Italian eatery called Little Nonna's in that space.
